Workshop on
Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis of
XLPE Underground Cables

In conjunction with:

2014 International Conference on Smart Green Technology in Electrical and Information Systems (ICSGTEIS)

7 November 2014
Sun Island Hotel, Kuta, Bali – Indonesia

General

The Workshop on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis of XLPE Underground Cables is jointly organized by Udayana University and PT. PLN (Persero). The workshop covers recent research and development in condition monitoring and diagnosis of underground power cables. The workshop will be delivered by international recognized lecturers and attended by staff and manager of PT PLN (Persero), professionals and academics.

Lecturer:

H. E. Orton
IEEE Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society
Orton Consulting Engineers International Ltd.

Harry OrtonHarry Orton, an electrical engineering and applied science graduate of the University of New South Wales and University of British Columbia, first worked at BC Hydro in Vancouver, Canada as an electrical engineer where he helped build one of the largest utility-based research centres in North America.  For over 20 years he worked as a specialist in the field of underground and submarine power transmission and distribution cables and accessories, later becoming section supervisor in charge of insulation studies and manager of technical activities.

Formerly a project manager for CEA and EPRI underground cable research projects and chair of the Cable Failure Task Force, Harry now runs Orton Consulting Engineers International Ltd., which is based in Vancouver, Canada and affiliated with the International Consulting Engineers. Harry has published over 60 technical papers and is currently working on the second edition of his book entitled “Long-life XLPE Insulated Power Cables”.

Harry is active in the IEEE ICC and the ICPADM as well as a member of CIGRE and a member of the Jicable Scientific Committee located in Paris.

B. T. Phung
The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia

Toan PhungToan Phung gained a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1998 and currently is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

He has over 30 years of practical research/development experience in partial discharge measurement, and in on-line condition monitoring of high-voltage equipment. His research interests include electrical insulation (dielectric materials and diagnostic methods), high-voltage engineering (generation, testing and measurement techniques), electromagnetic transients in power systems, and power system equipment (design and condition monitoring methods).
